Our Philosophy:
WRPC’s Youth Ministry staff believes that Deuteronomy 6 and Psalm 78 are the scriptural background for having a Youth Ministry in a local church. In these passages we are called to teach the next generation; to teach our children to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” As Moses proclaimed this charge to the nation of Israel and as David picked up on Moses’ charge, I believe they would have heard it as a covenant community.
These commands from Deuteronomy 6 and Psalm 78 make Youth Ministry a missional ministry that reaches out to the next generation. We reach out to both covenant children and people outside the covenant community. The implications of this passage also make youth ministry the responsibility of the whole body of Christ, not just a select few staff or volunteers. It is a call to reach the next generation by whatever means possible and make the biblical truth of the gospel relevant and applicable to the next generation. This is why we “do” youth ministry at WRPC.
